A case series study – treatment of chronic wounds with Erbium:YAG laser

Abstract
This prospective single-center case series evaluated the clinical performance of combined Er:YAG laser debridement and RecoSMA regenerative stimulation in the treatment of chronic lower extremity wounds of venous, arterial and mixed etiology.
Twenty-four patients were enrolled, and twenty completed the treatment protocol consisting of weekly laser sessions combined with standard wound care. The primary endpoint was complete wound epithelialization, while secondary endpoints included wound area reduction and safety.
No statistically significant association was found between treatment outcome and age, diabetes, obesity or stasis dermatitis.
Clinical Relevance
The study demonstrates that the combination of Er:YAG laser ablation for precise wound bed preparation and RecoSMA stimulation for regenerative activation represents a safe adjunctive treatment for chronic lower extremity wounds. The treatment was performed without anesthesia and alongside standard wound management.
